A fundraiser for a Red Baron Pizza worker filmed during a supermarket prank had raised $331,264 by 6:34 p.m. Eastern on October 29, according to a screenshot of the campaign page. The total is a snapshot and may change.
In the video, a content creator approaches the worker while he is stocking frozen pizzas and plays a sound to make it seem money was taken from the worker’s phone. The worker says he has four children, is late getting home, faces another long workday and is struggling to pay his mortgage. His response drew support from viewers who criticized the prank.
Red Baron Pizza weighed in with a message of support: “He’s still here. He’s got a fan club. Including us.” An accompanying image said, “Employee of the month nominations are closed. You know why.” The company’s social post does not establish that he was formally given that title.
The GoFundMe campaign was organized separately from Red Baron Pizza. We have not independently verified that the worker has received the money raised. Readers can view the campaign and its current total at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-a-harassed-red-baron-worker.
