Teen girl escapes kidnapping after being stabbed by unlicensed cab driver in Baltimore

A 15-year-old girl escaped a Baltimore home after an alleged kidnapping and stabbing on October 22, 2026. Police arrested 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie two days later. He faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping and first-degree assault, according to local reporting on the charging documents.

The girl told investigators she accepted a ride from Barrie believing he operated a “hack,” or unlicensed taxi. She wanted to go to a carryout on Belair Road. According to the charging documents described by WMAR-2 News, Barrie drove her to a Garrison Boulevard home, restrained her and stabbed her multiple times.

She said she fought back with a fire extinguisher and escaped. After knocking on doors, she found someone who let her call her mother and 911. She was taken to Sinai Hospital with multiple wounds. The reporting available to Wick does not establish her current medical condition.

Baltimore Police said detectives apprehended Barrie on October 24 in the 3700 block of Garrison Boulevard. Their public release lists attempted first- and second-degree murder and assault charges. WMAR-2 News, citing charging documents, also reports a kidnapping charge. The allegations have not been proven in court.

The case is a reminder to verify transportation arrangements and talk with young people about how to get help if a ride goes somewhere unexpected or they feel unsafe. Those precautions are worth discussing without placing responsibility on the girl for what happened. Responsibility for the alleged attack lies with the accused person.
