A helicopter crashed into Biscayne Bay near Key Biscayne, Florida, on Wednesday, killing one person and seriously injuring two others, according to officials.
The aircraft went down shortly before noon near Bill Baggs State Park, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that one of the helicopter’s three occupants was reported dead. The other two were taken to a local trauma center.
The National Transportation Safety Board said preliminary information indicates that the Robinson R44 II helicopter appeared to be on a photography flight. Investigators have not announced a cause. Officials had not immediately identified the occupants as of the Associated Press’s Nov. 4 update.
Video from the response shows boats moving across the bay toward the crash area. Firefighters from several local agencies and the Coast Guard responded.
The loss of life and serious injuries make this a heartbreaking event for everyone involved. The investigation will determine what led to the crash; no conclusion about its cause has been announced.
